Synthesis of β-Co(OH)2 Platelets for Textured Thermoelectric Ceramics

Abstract

We have synthesized β-Co(OH)₂ platelet with developed {001} plane (average diameter ∼0.5 μm, aspect ratio ∼5) by the precipitation method. The platelet has a highly anisotropic shape and similar crystal structure with the CoO₂ sublattice of cobaltite thermoelectrics (e.g., Ca₃Co₄O₉). Thus, the prepared β-Co(OH)₂ platelet would be a candidate reactive template (precursor) for the fabrication of the highly textured cobaltite thermoelectrics.
