Evaluation of particle orientation of alumina green body made by slip casting

Abstract

Particle orientation in the green body made by slip casting was evaluated by a novel method with polarized light microscopy. Degree of particle orientation was evaluated by retardation of green body against that of single crystal. Degree of particle orientation was10%-15%. The most oriented structure was observed at near section from gypsum mold. The shrinkage of sintering was discussed with density and degree of particle orientation.
