Abstract
The syntheses and properties of polysilzanes as a precursor for silicon nitride was investigated by the ammonolysis of isocyanatosilanes. Highly hydrolyzable polysilazanes were synthesized by the reaction of isocyanatosilanes with ammonia with the production of ammonium cyanate as a byproduct. Silicon nitride fibers were produced by the sintering the precursor fibers, prepared by melt spinning of polysilazanes, under ammonia atmosphere.
