Electromagnetic properties of orthogonal ferroelectric/ferromagnetic epitaxial thin films

Abstract
Recently, research to examine the effect of coupling between ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism is just started for materials with both ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties such as (Pb,La)(Zr,Ti)O3-BiFeO3, Bi6Ti3Fe2O18 and YMnO3. We are expecting to induce the coupling phenomenon by "orthogonalization" of spontaneous polarization and magnetization. On the basis of this concept, we prepared BaTiO3/(Ni,Zn)Fe2O4 epitaxial films in which spontaneous polarization and magnetization is orthogonalized. We also prepared BaTiO3/BaFe12O19 epitaxial films in which spontaneous polarization and magnetization is in parallel. To clarify the effect of "orthogonalization", electrical and magnetic properties were measured.
