Abstract
The whiskers synthesized by an atmospheric CVD method have highly orientation and crystallinity. We have already reported that Y2O3:Eu3+ whiskers exhibit high luminance of red emission by the excitation at 254 nm in wavelength, corresponding to the charge-transfer excitation. On the other hand, the excitation wavelength of 325 nm is due to the intrinsic transition within the Eu3+ ion. In this study, the effect of irradiation by the 325 nm in wavelength on the photoluminescence of Y2O3: Eu3+ whiskers obtained on the (100)Si and (100)YSZ substrates has been investigated. It is shown that the irradiation by this particular wavelength stimulates a white emission from Y2O3: Eu3+ whiskers grown on the (100)YSZ substrate. Possible sources of this emission are also discussed.
