Abstract
Scintillators are used for the detection of high energy radiation or particles. Research activity in this field has been increasing within last 10 years due to always growing number of applications and their demands particularly in the field of high energy physics, medical imaging (molecular imaging) and safety regulations (imaging for safety). Especially, due to the international situation, the detection of fears of terrorism becomes one of the highest matters in recent years. The market size became third largest scale in the single crystal field after silicon and quartz. However, there is no perfect scintillator. Therefore, huge efforts are devoted in the world. In this presentation, domestic and international research activity will be introduced together with our results. Especially, the problems of single crystalline scintillator will be listed up and the possibility to solve the problems using ceramics will be discussed.
