Abstract
Many kinds of photocatalyst have been investigated and the most popular and one of the best is titanium dioxide. But recently, it is saturated to enhance the ability as photocatalyst. In the present letter, we introduced the idea and technique of localized surface plasmon resonance generated from silver nano-particles into the field of photocatalyst. We call the brand-new type photocatalysis as the plasmonic photocatalyst. As a first step, we examined the amplitude of electric field from Ag nanoparticles theoretically. Based on the theoretical examination, we designed and fabricated the plasmonic photocatalyst. It was successful found that decomposition rate of methylene blue in the plasmonic photocatalyst was 8 times faster than that of normal titanium dioxide. It was assumed that the innovative results was born from joint research of photocatalyst and nano-photonics. We believe the plasmonic photocatalyst will be applied to the location of minimal light exposure.
