Preparation of C12A7 powders by chemical solution deposition

Abstract

12CaO•7Al₂O₃(C12A7) is known as a constituent of alumina cement. Recent studies reveal C12A7 has nano size cages and various anion accommodates in the cages. We prepared C12A7 powders by chemical solution deposition. Aluminum sec-butoxide, calcium nitrate tetrahydrate were used as raw materials. Structure, crystallization temperature, and surface morphology were investigated by XRD, TG-DTA and SEM. Single phase C12A7 powders were obtained at 900 ºC. Therefore, we concluded O₂ atmosphere was essential for the crystallization of C12A7. Crystallization temperature was determined at 900 ºC in O₂ atmosphere. SEM image of obtained powders revealed C12A7 particles were sintered and formed porous bulk.
