Abstract

For the purpose of fabricating transparent submicrometer alpha-Al2O3 via pressureless sintering, uniform green compacts were prepared by controlling the particle size distribution of alpha-Al2O3 powders and wet forming of slurries. The microstructure and transparent properties of sintered alpha-Al2O3 ceramics were investigated. The transparent submicrometer alpha-Al2O3 ceramics were obtained by pressureless sintering in air at 1400 degree C for 2 h.
