Synthesis of High Density CNT Particles from Used SiC Abrasive Powder

Abstract

To develop the novel recycling method of the used SiC abrasive powder, we investigated on the conversion of the used SiC abrasive powder to the high density CNT particles by SiC surface decomposition technique. From TEM observation of the treated SiC particles after the optimal pre-heating treatment, it was revealed that high dense and orientated CNTs layer could be observed on the surface of the used SiC particle, like the case of pure SiC particles. Thus, this indicates that not only the cost for synthesizing CNT particles but also the disposal amount of the used SiC powder can be reduced.
