Abstract
The influences of Y2O3 concentration and pellet microstructure, such as the density, pore size, and YSZ grain size, on its compressive strength were investigated. The compressive strength of the dense 3 mol% Y2O3/97 mol% ZrO2 is greater than that of the dense 8 mol% Y2O3/92 mol% ZrO2. The compressive strength of the dense YSZ decreased with the increase in the YSZ grain size. The compressive strength of the porous YSZ increased with the YSZ grain size and the density. When the density and YSZ grain size are constant, the compressive strength has local maximum value at the pore diameter of 0.8 um.
