Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the applications of porous SiC as functional materials for advanced energy systems. However, conventional processing routes for porous SiC are complicated and these materials show poor mechanical and chemical stability. In this study, porous SiC manufactured using the decarburization process has been constructed with open, spherical pores. These materials exhibited a substantially higher strength in comparison with other conventional porous SiC, due to their robust microstructure.
