Abstract

The synthesis of the nanosized TiC/Al2O3 powder with core-shell structure was tried using the coordination compounds which consist of titanium tetraisopropoxide and salicylic acid as carbon source. The precursor was mixed with alumina powder by ball-mill. The slurry was dried and heated under vacuum at 1673K for 4 hours. The powders got by the heat treatment were consisted of titanium carbides and alumina, the maximum size of titanium carbides was under 50nm. TiC/ Al2O3 core-shell structure was confirmed by TEM images.
