Abstract
In the authors' group, a novel recycling method of inorganic wastes has been developed, in which phase separation of glass was used to obtain SiO2-rich glassy phase. In the recovered solids prepared from a granulated blast furnace slag, however, small amount of sulfur was confirmed. In the case of recycling as raw material of glass, it is preferable to remove sulfur from the recovered solids. However, change in the chemical states of sulfur due to the phase separation of glass has never been clarified. In this study, behavior of sulfur associated with phase separation has been examined in the ternary Na2S-B2O3-SiO2 system. After phase separation, sulfur content in SiO2-rich phases was reduced to 1/4 compared to the homogeneous glasses, suggesting that sulfur was preferentially distributed to B2O3-rich glass phases.
