Abstract
In these days, many kinds of ceramic nano particles use in food and cosmetic products. Their biological toxicity caused by nano-size of particles are unclear until now. In this work, we evaluated biological safety of Y2O3 nano particles using mouse osteoblast-like cell in vitro. Three different sizes of Y2O3 particles were prepared and they were dispersed into media with various concentrations. Cell counting result showed that, cytotoxicity was expressed in media containing smaller-sized particles with their higher concentration. LIVE/DEAD double staining indicated that, many dead cells appeared in a medium with high concentration of particle. Morphology of cells by SEM observation and structure of stained actin filament showed small-sized cells and few actin filaments in a medium, in which Y2O3 of 33 nm in diameter were dispersed at the concentration of 10 um/ml. We suggested Y2O3 nanoparticles inhibit the development of actin filament at the concentration of 10 ug/ml, and following cell proliferation.
