Abstract

The novel hemostatic agent was fabricated using hydroxyapatite (HAp), alginate (AG) and thermoplastic resin. The random copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide (EP) gel could be obtained by heating the starting materials at 100ºC for 185 min and then at 70ºC for 960 min, whereas the whisker-like HAp particles were prepared by the homogeneous precipitation method. The mixture of whisker-like (or nanometer-scaled) HAp particles and 2 mass% sodium alginate (HAp/AG ratio =1.0) was put into 1 mol dm-3 CaCl2 solution with a syringe or nebulizer in order to prepare spherical granules. The composite with HAp/AG granules and EP was effective for the resistance to bleed.
