Nanocrystalline hydroxyapatie (HAp), which is similar in composition and crystal structure of natural bone, was successfully synthesized using commercial CaCO3 and its related material waste, such as hen's eggshell, fish bone and scale, as calcium source. The synthesized HAp was then characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). FT-IR spectra show the characteristic peak of phosphate and hydroxyl groups. XRD results of samples reveal the characteristic peaks of HAp. The SEM images show sheet-like and rod-like for HAp prepared from CaCO3 and hen's eggshell, respectively.
