Abstract
Titanium oxide (TiO2) has been widely used as a practical photocatalyst owing to its thermal/chemical stability and its low fabrication cost. To prevent the electron/hole recombination, TiO2 and WO3 hetero junctions, at which the photoinduced electron can transfer from the conduction band (CB) of TiO2 to that of WO3, have been investigated so far. In this study, crystalline TiO2 and WO3 coprecipitated nanoporous glass-ceramics were prepared utilizing spinodal-type phase separation of brosilicate-based glasses. The obtained glass-ceramic had a large pole surface area of 12.3m2/g with 8.1 nm pore radius. Rutile TiO2 and WO3 were clearly precipitated inside the glasses after heat treatment at 1000°C for 15 h. Photodecomposition properties of the porous glass-ceramics are discussed in relation to the glass composition.
