Abstract
Influence of joining time on flexural strength of boron carbide (B4C) ceramics joined with Al sheet was investigated. Al sheet was sandwiched between two B4C plates and joining was conducted by heating the specimen at 1000 C in vaccum. The four-point bending strength of joined B4C for 2 h was close to that of the B4C base material. On the other hand, the four-point bending strength of joined B4C for 16 h and 72 h decreased. Al existed in the joint of the specimen joined for 2 h, however, Al was not observed in the joint of those for 72 h. It is suggested that Al in the joint plays an important role in the joining of B4C.
