Abstract
In this study, electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method was used to control the interface between fiber and matrix for uni-directional SiCf/SiC composites, and their mechanical properties were evaluated at room temperature. Relatively homogeneous carbon coating was successfully formed on not only crystalline SiC fibers but also amorphous SiC fibers by EPD method, and the amount of carbon on the fibers depended on the concentration of carbon suspension and EPD time. In the case of 0.3 wt% carbon suspension for EPD, the thickness of carbon coating on crystalline SiC fibers was 80-400 nm, and the SiCf/SiC composites using the crystalline SiC fibers fractured in pseudo-ductile manner with large amount of fiber pull-out.
