Abstract
Novel hemostatic agent was prepared using hydroxyapatite (HAp), thermoplastic resin (random copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide; EPO) and phosphoryl oligosaccharides of calcium (COP); the drug releasing behavior of gentamicin sulfate in the phosphate buffer saline solution was examined by using the hemostatic agents. The starting EPO gel was obtained through the freeze-drying of EPO at -50°C for 15 h and sieving of the freeze-dried materials (sizes: 1 ∼ 2 mm). Also, the nonstoichiometric HAp particles (Ca/P ratio=1.56) were prepared by hydrothermally heating the COP at 100°C for 5 h. The hemostatic agent containing HAp and EPO (HAp/EPO = 0.20) was found to be effective for the inhibition of bleeding and sustained release of gentamicin sulfate.
