Abstract
In order to fabricate large ceramics components with high purity by joining dense ceramic blocks, a joining technique with alumina slurry was developed. The slurry was inserted into the gap of alumina blocks and was dried to form the pure alumina interlayer which width was 30 - 100 μm. The pre-connected body was sintered at 1650 oC for 2 h and machined to measure the bonding strength. The bending strength of JIS-standard-size specimen exhibited 283 MPa, although the interlayer consisted of large independent pores, insufficiently sintered areas with lots of micropores and almost fully densified areas.
