Abstract
We prepared novel transparent smectite films that consist only of organo-smectite produced by ion exchange of tetraphenylphosphonium (TPP) cation to sodium ion of synthetic saponite (SA), synthetic hectorite (HE) and a mixture of these two kinds of smectites (SA-HE). Haze value of the TPP-SA-HE film decreased by a third compared to the TPP-SA, and it was also confirmed that TPP-SA-HE film has high flexibility. It is suggested that the flexibility and the transparency of the TPP-smectite film is effected by adjusting the size and the amount of the void in the structure.
