Abstract
It was reported that silicate ion enhances the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblastic cells through gene activation. Calcium ion has been proposed to be one of essential elements for the mineralization. Our strategy for drug release in addition to the gene activation is to utilize calcium silicate based materials as a matrix. However, the characteristic properties of calcium silicates for protein adsorption are unclear so far. In the present study, protein adsorption properties and their catalytic abilities on calcium silicates, such as tobermorite, xonotlite and wollastonite, were evaluated.
