A Case of the Primary Carcinoma of the Vermiform Appendix : Usefulness of Magnifying Endoscopy

Abstract

We presented the case of 73-year-old man with the chief complaint of the constipation and lower abdominal pain. Colonoscopic examination showed the slight elevated lesion at the bottom of the cecum without the appendical orifice. Magnifying endoscopic examination revealed type V_N pit pattern surrounded by the lesion with type I pit pattern. Histological findings of specimen from the lesion with type V_N pit pattern was mucinous adenocarcinoma. It is difficult to make a definite diagnosis of the carcinoma of the appendix, which is very rare. before surgery. It is useful to observe the cecum in detail.
