Abstract
We placed colonic stents in 8 colorectal cancer patients with ileus and bowel stenosis.
There were no complications of the stent placement, and the colorectal obstruction scores improved and remained improved until surgery in those in which the procedure served as a “bridge-to-surgery” (mean 48.4 days) . There were no cases of stent obstruction in the patients receiving palliative care who eventually died. Colonic stent placement may a useful option for providing a markedly improved quality of life to patients with advanced colonic cancer.
