Acute pancreatitis associated with the administration of Ceftriaxone in an adult patient

Abstract

The patient was a 74-year-old male. He started to have Epigastric pain 12 days after we started treating him for pneumonia by administrating ceftriaxone (CTRX) . Through an abdominal CT examination, we found gallbladder stones and common bile duct calculi, prompting us to diagnose him with acute biliary pancreatitis caused by pseudolithiasis, and then we urgently performed an endoscopic sphincterotomy. His pancreatitis improved afterward, and the gallbladder calculus completely disappeared two months later. Although it may not occur very frequently, we need to pay attention to the onset of pseudolithiasis when administering CTRX, even in adults.
