Abstract
A 82-year-old woman with bronchial asthma and hypertension had undergone the X-ray examination with contrast medium of upper gastrointestinal tract because of epigastralgia. The lesion suspected esophageal carcinoma. The endoscopic study showed flat elevated lesion with small nodular surface. The pathological diagnosis was moderately differetiated squamous cell carcinoma. She had observed without treatment (operation, chemotherapy or endoscopic surgery) because of her age and general condition.
Following endoscopic study showed spontaneous regression of the esophageal cancer after 2 years. Spontaneous regression of cancer is considered uncommon phenomenon. Its proportion thought 1 case among a 60,000-100,000cases of malignant tumor. We report a case of spontaneous regression of the esophageal cancer followed in 2 years by endoscopy.
