Abstract

We studied the clinical usefulness of newly developed ultrasonic scope for colorectal lesions (XCF-UMQ200) . This scope was designed to observe precise image of colorectal image for the definite diagnosis of colorectal cancer, submucosal tumor and extramural lesions.
This scope was assembled 2 different types of ultrasonic scanner (frequency : 7.5MHz and 20MHz) in the mechanical radial scanning. Sixteen patients with colorectal lesions were examined with this scope. All lesions could be approached and obtained images taking with each frequency.
Concerning to the shape of the lesion, protruded type was not well visualized in the deeper area using 20MHz high frequency scanner because of echo dumping. In such cases, visualized image was improved after changed the frequency to the 7.5MHz.
Compare to these images obtained by ultrasonic probe, images obtained by ultrasonic scope were almost fine. Newly developed ultrasonic imaging system (EU-IP) was also examined using this ultrasonic scope. This system was able to visualize the image more precisely due to improved resolution of the image. Ultrasonic image using this system was quite helpful to know the details of wall structure.
In conclusion, this newly developed ultrasonic scope equipped with 2 types of scanner was useful for high resolutional imaging of any colorectal lesions.
