Abstract
We tried to publish a so-called "pedon paper" with soil profile description, soil profile photograph, and analytical data and classify the volcanic ash soils developed at the eastern foot of Mt. Nantai by Unified Soil Classification System of Japan -2nd Approximation (2002)- (denoted as 2nd approximation). As a result, a Brown Forest soil (Osawa series) developed in the Funyu Experimental Forest of Utsunomiya University was classified as [Typic Allophanic Kuroboku soil], whereas a Kuroboku soil (Shichihonzakura series) developed in Tochigi Prefectural Experiment Station (Central Station) was classified as [Cumulic Allophanic Kuroboku soil].
