Abstract
Morphology and properties of a pedon in Kuju Plateau that locates around the boundary of non-allophanic and allophanic Kuroboku soil areas were investigated. The profile was composed of black to brownish black horizons from the surface to 100cm depth. The horizons between surface and 36cm depth were non-allophanic horizons that showed low pH, large Al_p/Al_o ratios and crystalline minerals' peaks of XRD. Horizons below 36cm were allophanic. The similar stratigraphy and properties of horizons were observed in two other profiles in Kuju Plateau. The surveyed profile was classified into non-allophanic or allophanic soils as follows; Cumulic Non-allophanic Kuroboku soil in Unified Soil Classification System of Japan, High-humic Cumulic Non-allophanic Andosol or High-humic Curnulic Andosol in Classification of Cultivated Soils in Japan, Silandic Melanic Hydric Andosol (Acroxic, Hyperdystric) in WRB and Acrudoxic Hydric Melanudand in Soil Taxonomy. From the viewpoint of soil management, this profile should be regarded as a non-allophanic soil.
