Abstract
In the present study, successive changes on the microvascular architecture were observed in detail in surrounding tissues without damaging the three dimensional relation during the healing process following full thichness flap surgery. A total of 48 adult, mongrel, periodontially healthy dogs were used. Periodontal flap surgery was performed at a predetermined position the left upper incisors. Vascular corrosion casts were made at the 5th, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and 42nd postoperative days, according to the method of Ohta et al. (1990). Along with scanning electron microscopy, comparative histopathological studies were made. As a result, it was revealed that blood circulation in the vascular plexus of the gingivo-periosteum and periodontium recovered more vigorously on the periodontal side than on the gingivo-periosteal side at the initial healing stage. However, the tooth-supporting function diminished during restoration of the circulation, indicating the need for careful clinical protection of the tissue during the postoperative healing process.
