Resection and reconstruction of a stasis ulcer and the surrounding stasis cutaneous lesion are effective for improvement of the long-term outcome, but an appropriate range of resection has not been clearly established. In this study, we examined how treatment of a stasis cutaneous lesion contributed to venous flow in our cases and in past reports. Clot formation at the venula in a cutaneous lesion and its aftereffect may cause disturbance of residual venous flow in cutaneous soft tissues, even after stripping or other venous treatments. In addition, a stasis cutaneous lesion itself may cause development of a new lesion, and thus resection and reconstruction should be performed aggressively to improve the long-term outcome of stasis ulcer.
