Tokyo Polytechnic University Celebrates its 100th Anniversary

Abstract

Tokyo Polytechnic University celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. Founded in April 1923 as Japan's first higher education institution specializing in photography, Tokyo Polytechnic University was founded as Konishi Professional School of Photography, and its origins lie in the education and research of photography, which at the time was the cutting-edge medium that fused technology and art. However, it has now developed into a unique university consist- ing of two faculties: the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Arts. The University also has a deep relationship with the Society of Photography and Imaging of Japan, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026.
