Abstract
Since optical glass was used as optical lenses in telescopes in the early 1600s, optical glass developed rapidly in the wake of the British Industrial Revolution. The optical glass industry in Japan initially developed mainly for military applications and grew along with the camera industry after World War II. The development of optical glass in OHARA is summarized from the viewpoint of glass materials and glass melting technology.
