Abstract

The recent method of valuation of photographic image has made remarkable progress with the introduction of the information theory. We know well that the sharpness of the final photographic image is related to a great deal of factors indeed, most of which have became noteworthy objects of many researchers old and young and also have been studied extensively.
We must consider, however, the blurring effect that impedes the sharpness of the image badly, which has been inquired into so far.
Reflecting on myself, I have tried to examine the blurring effect of the image: what I have tried is that I have sought after physical characteristics of the image blurring in terms of photooptics, and further made the qualitative and quantitative measurements of the image blurring by psychometry.
The result shows that the blurring 3'-7' from the static point gives the threshold value of blurring, and also that we could find the relation as follows between physical blurring value (P) and psachological blurring value (E):
E=αlogP or EP
