Abstract

Experimental and theoretical investigations of the intramolecular radiationless transitions are reviewed. The intramolecular radiationless processes are explained mainly on the basis of the breakdown of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The model predicts several experimentally detectable quantities such as broadening of an absorption line, decrease of the fluorescence quantum yield at an given wave length, and oscillatory decay of emission from cohelently excited molecules.
