Abstract

Discussions have been made on the mechanism of dye sensitization of photoelectric effects in various photoconductors (AgBr, ZnO, TiO2, Se, S, CdS and polyvinylcarbazole), from the viewpoint of the modified electron transfer mechanism proposed by the present author, on the basis of the results of the adsorption state of dyes on the photoconductors and of the electronic structures of dyes and the photoconductors. For each case, it has been suggested that the dye sensitization takes place as a result of the transfer of electric carriers from the excited dye molecules to the photoconductors. It has been found that the modified electron transfer mechanism is also applicable to the dye sensitization in the various photoconductors.
