Abstract

Appearance of surface topography of skin with cosmetic foundation was analyzed by the introduction of image processing technique. First, it is shown that the surface skin component with tiny lines and pores can be separated from the body component by using the polarization of light.
Secondly, on the basis of this experiment, three kind of facial skins; bare skin with lotion, skin with creamy foundation, and skin with both creamy foundation and face powder were taken by HDTV camera with polarized filter and those obtained images were analyzed and evaluated.
The result indicates that the power spectrum of those images with a pass band of unit height from 10 to 40 lines/mm which correspond to the human visual response is well correlated to the subjective evaluation of skin with foundation.
