Abstract

This is to report a quantum efficiency measurement for the photo-induced bleaching of latent image centers by positive holes. In the presence of strongly electron-accepting adsorbates (phenosafranine) and in our standard development condition, the estimated average quantum efficiencies are typically-1×10-4, -1×10-3, and-3×10-3 for unsensitized, S-sensitized, and S+Au-sensitized cubic AgBr grains, respectively. The relative bleaching efficiencies may be correlated with the highest occupied levels of latent image centers relative to the valence band edge.
