Abstract

We studied the heat-recording characteristics of the heat-recording material comprising a microencapsulated basic leuco dye and a phenolic developer. We also studied the thermal characteristics of the microcapsule wall and other ingredients in the material. By the interaction between the microcapsule wall and the phenolic developer, the Tm of the developer and the Tg of the microcapsule were significantly decreased. The lowest color-development-initiating temperature agreed with the higher temperature of either the decreased Tm and Tg mentioned before.
