Following a brief review on the progress of silver halide photographic materials, a review was given on the progresses in the studies of the mechanisms of main phenomena in photographic sensitivity. A focus was placed on the progresses in the studies of the mechanisms of latent image formation, chemical sensitization, and spectral sensitization for these 40 years, during which the present author have been involved in the above-stated studies.
