Acquisition and composition of the high resolution movies for projection onto dome screen

Abstract

A technique for acquisition and synthesis of moving picture with high resolution and wide angle is presented for projection onto dome screen. Basic idea is the use of multiple, inexpensive movie cameras and seamless and distortion free image synthesis. In a preliminary experiment, a digital camera was directed to six directions and images were obtained as to cover 180 degree of viewing field. Those images were synthesized properly and a very large, wide angle image was successfully produced.
