Abstract
(1) (-)-Dihydromorphine menifestly caused the tail reaction and the analgesic action in mice, and the depressant action on the respiration in rabbits.
(2) (-)-Dihydrocodeine showed also these three pharmacological actions, but, among these, the tail reaction was pretty incostant.
(3) (+)-Dihydromorphine and (+)-dihydrocodeine never provoked these three actions even with larger doses.
(4) (+)-Dihydromorphine showed a very weak toxicity comparing with the corresponding (-)-derivative. Only with exceedingly large dosis to cause death, the compound exerted restlessness, tremor and convulsions in mice.
(5) (+)-Dihydrocodeine provoked restlessness, tremor, increased reflex excitability and convulsions in mice.
(6) (±)-Dihydromorphine exerted only (-)-derivative's actions except with exceedingly large dose, as the (+)-derivative's pharmacodynamic action was very weak.
(7) (±)-Dihydrocodeine exerted both (-) and (+)-derivatives' actions.
