When the descending speed of ova through the genital tract was investigated, most of the ova were found still in the oviduct on the 2nd or 3rd day after ovulation, and only a small percentage of them entered the uterus. In one animal, however, all ova were recovered from the uterine horns on the 4th day. About one half of the ova superovulated by PMS and HCG injections and recovered on the 3rd day after insemination were at the 8-cell stage. Most ova of the second half were either before or after the 8-cell stage. In the case of flushing the ectomized gentital tract, the rate of recovery was 20 to 100%, 68.7% on the average, and the number of ova recoverd 2 to 21 per animal, 9.2 on the average. When the genital tract was flushed in vivo downward from the fimbria toward the uterine horn, the rate of recovery on one side was 30.8 to 100.0%, 56.8% on the average, and the number of ova recovered 1 to 9, 4.2 on the average. A comparable result was also obtained in a downward flushing from the fimbria through the cervical canal tried in order not to injure the uterine horn.
