Presence of Herpes-type Virus in the Culture Cell Line from a Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in Taiwan

Abstract

Establishment of a floating cell line, NPC-204, from a Chinese nasopharyngeal carcinoma in Taiwan, and the presence of herpes-type virus particles and crystalline arrays in these cells were described. The NPC-204 cells may be heterogeneous in nature and the ultrastructure of virus particles in NPC-204 was similar to the EB virus reported to be present in Burkitt lymphoma cells, leukemia, and other cells cultured in vitro.
