Abstract

The iron(II) phosphonate complex [DEP-Fe(II)] was prepared by the reaction of diethylphosphonate with iron(III) nitrate in acetonitrile. The compound has a sheet-like lamellar structure of (P-O-Fe-O-P-O-Fe-O-P)n,. The use of the DEP-Fe(II) complex could be as a solid acid catalyst in esterifications and as a color reagent for a spectrophotometric determination of 1-naphthol.
