Abstract
Behind the damage due to the devastating tsunami after the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake, it was not clear how much damage was caused by the strong motion of magnitude 9.3 earthquake. To investigate this reconnaissance was carried out after two months of the event. Damage to the ground including liquefaction, earth structures, and port facility are reported. The investigated areas were Banda Aceh and Meulaboh where the closest city from the epicenter in west coast of the Sumatra Island.
