Abstract
This study quantifies the possible impacts of waste heat release from air conditioning system and power supply system in buildings upon urban thermal environment in summer. For this investigation, the authors' multi-scale simulation system for urban thermal environment prediction was applied to a typical office buildings' canopy in Osaka city, and the following results were obtained.
1) The possible changes in the component patterns of the abovementioned systems were estimated to cause the diurnal canopy air temperature variations ranging from -0.5°C-+0.3°C, which were comparable to the effects of promising heat island mitigation measures.
2) Accordingly, the importance to assess the environmental impact of urban energy system was clarified not only in terms of energy conservation but also from the aspect of thermal environment mitigation.
