Abstract
This paper measures and analyzes the degree of economic dependency and the environmental burden caused by economic international trade among regions by using two or more Input-Output tables of Tokyo, Beijing and other regions in Japan as examples.
Our main finding is that Tokyo is a much stronger consumer rather than as supplier to Beijing. However, another region in Japan is a stronger supplier to Beijing. It can be found therefore, that Beijing has larger repercussions through its exports to Tokyo.
Moreover, energy consumption and the CO2 emissions by economic trade over the border are more serious in Beijing than in Japan. Our results especially show that the indirect environmental burden in Beijing is thousand times higher than in Tokyo.
